2013-06-17: Vacation Church School

Vacation Church School will take place June 17-21, 2013.
Please remember to sign up for Vacation Church School.
Eligible children are those in HOPE and JOY age groups (4 years old through 6th Grade).
For more information please contact Julie Skrettas (vacationchurchschool@gmail.com, 734-332-8200 )or Katherine Phan (kapsule@sbcglobal.net, 971-0813).
Parents are needed to make sure there is enough support and supervision.
Also, members of GOYA interested to help are more than welcome!

2013-05-19: Take-Home Exams due back from Students

Take home exams for grades 2-12 were distributed to students on April 14. Exams are due on or before Sunday, May 19, 2013. As in the past, completed exams should be deposited in the specially labelled white drop-box in the corridor outside the main church office.

2013-05-01: Holy Wednesday - Holy Unction Service

On May 1, 2013, Holy Unction Service for Church School students will be at 4 pm followed by Holy Week Retreat (5:45-6:30).
As on Holy Wednesday in past years, the Church School will participate in an earlier Unction Service at 4:00 PM and will have a retreat immediately afterwards.
Mr. Tony Mihalopoulos is organizing the retreat. Teachers interested in assisting can contact Tony at antonios356@gmail.com
For instruction the students will assemble according to youth group (Hope, Joy and Goya) 
Snacks will be provided to the students before the start of the retreat.

2013-04-27: Saturday of Lazarus

On April 27, 2013, we commemorate Saturday of Lazarus. Church School students will attend the Divine Liturgy and take Communion. After church services the students will be served a Lenten meal and make palm crosses that will be distributed to parishioners after Palm Sunday services.

2013-04-20: How to Make Prosforo

The Church School has arranged that on April 20, 2013,  9AM-2PM, for Mr. Panayiotis Apostolou to teach our Church School students how to make Prosforo in our church social hall. Parents interested in learning how to make Prosforo are welcome to join us.

The Prosforo will be used in the preparation of Holy Communion on Sunday April 21st. 

While the students wait for the Prosforo to rise and bake Fr. Nick will demonstrate how the Prosforo is used in the preparation of Holy Communion.

Fr. Nick will also demonstrate how the priest puts on his vestments in preparation for conducting the Divine Liturgy.
A Lenten lunch will be served to all in attendance.

2013-04-13: Special OCMC Presentation

On April 14 and 21, 2013, Mr. Chris Patselas, one of our teachers for K-1st grade, who has has participated in an OCMC mission that went to Kenya, will make a special presentation. 
On Sunday April 14th (for lower grades) and Sunday April 21st (for upper grades) Mr. Patselas will do a presentation with slides about the work of the OCMC for our Church School students. The presentation will take place in the conference room. (Thank you Chris!)

2013-04-14: Final Exams Distributed

On April 14, 2013, the take-home exams for grades 2-12 will be distributed to students. Exams are due on or before Sunday, May 19, 2013.

2013-03-24: Sunday of Orthodoxy, Icon Procession

Students will participate in the procession of icons into the church at the end of the Divine Liturgy.
Students are requested to bring an icon from home to carry in the procession. If a student is not able to bring an icon from home, one will be provided for them.
(Following the procession the Greek School will have its program for the Annunciation and Greek Independence Day.)

2013-03-17: OCMC Lenten Coin Box Collection

During Lent each Church School student will receive an OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center) coin box to help raise money for the Mission. The OCMC sponsors mission teams all over the world and its projects include construction of churches and schools, outreach to orphans, and health care. Please encourage your child/children to participate in this philanthropic work.
