2012 St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival
Our parish St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival will take place this Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Students in Grades 6-12 should arrive at the Church at 9:30 AM sharp.
Participation in our parish St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival is a requirement for all Church School students. All Oratorical Festival work must be turned in this Sunday and will be reviewed by Fr. Nick.
Younger students in P-3rd grade are usually given smaller projects that are mostly completed in class.
Students in 4th-5th grade have been asked to write a short essay (on a topic chosen from a long list compiled by their teachers) on which they work partly in class and partly at home.
Only students in 6th-9th Grade (Junior Division) and 10th-12th Grade (Senior Division) must write an essay chosen from a set of topics specially selected each year by our Archdiocese.
The 2012 Junior and Senior Division topics and the Oratorical Festival regulations as well as helpful resources are on a special web page.
All 6-12 grade students are also strongly encouraged to give a speech and deliver their essay in front of their peers and a panel of judges.
Remember that according to official regulations, Oratorical Festical participants must give a copy of their speech to the Chairman (Dr. Vicki Kiningham) before or during the Orientation Session (typed, double-spaced, on 8-1/2 x 11 paper).
Important times:
09:30 AM - Students arrive in Social Hall. Please be on time!
09:45 AM - Speaker assignment and orientation
