2014-09-01: Church School Capital Projects - Status Report

All Church School classrooms and corridor were repainted over the summer of 2011.
During the 2011-12 year we obtained and framed 300+ byzantine icons.
Each classroom now has about 20 icons, 12 of which are the same (they are the major feasts of the year) and the remaining 8 are different. Our objective was to make these icons part of Church School so that children can learn about the saints and the events from the Old and New Testaments. ("We become what we behold.")
Over the summer of 2012 we upgraded our classrooms and installed new matching bookcases and cupboards. These match the bookcases that were recently installed in the church conference room.
All old furniture has been removed from Church School classrooms.
All large icons from our old church on Main Street have been professionally framed at considerable expense.
In Summer 2014 these framed icons were installed in the corridor of the Education Wing of St. Nicholas. A few of these icons line the walls of the Conference Room and Church Office. Because of their size and weight, these icons required a heavy-duty professional hanging system similar to those used in galleries. This system allows the icons to hung, moved, removed, etc., with minimal effort and without damaging the walls.
